Intellectual Property working group

In the IPR group at EuropaBio, legal and patent experts from National Associations and Company Members discuss Intellectual Property Rights issues of common interest affecting the biotechnology sector. The group works on IPR issues on an international as well as European and National level. In particular the Group monitors the developments in - Implementation into national laws of Directive 98/44 on the protection of biotechnological inventions. - The development of the Commission proposal for a Council Regulation on the Community Patent. - The implementation and discussions of the TRIPs agreement. - The possible establishment of a system for the legal protection of Traditional Knowledge. - Ethical, economical and societal aspects of patenting, especially in relation to microorganisms, plants, animals, genes, stem cells, etc.
