Bt cotton avoids millions of cases of pesticide poisoning in India
In a recent publication in Ecological Economics, the University of Goettingen’s Professor Matin Qaim shows that Bt cotton helps to avoid at least 2.4 million cases of pesticide poisoning in India every year. In monetary terms, this is equivalent to a health cost saving of 14 million US$. The positive health effects have mirrored the increasing technology adoption rates.
