Brussels, 02 May 2012

EuropaBio is pleased to announce the appointment of Miriam Gargesi as Director of Healthcare biotechnology.

Miriam brings with her many years of experience as a senior public affairs and communications advisor in Brussels. She previously held the position of Director for Public Affairs and Communications at the European Diagnostics Manufacturers Association, EDMA, in Brussels. In this capacity, she also provided strategic oversight to shape and implement EDMA advocacy programmes and to further develop the Association's network of contacts with policymakers and other stakeholders. Prior to working at EDMA, Miriam worked as a consultant for Hill & Knowlton as a healthcare public affairs specialist and for Kreab Gavin Anderson in Brussels for a number of years. Her substantial experience in the field of public affairs and strategic communications is complemented by extensive knowledge of policymaking that she gained when serving at the Italian Parliament and at the House of Commons in London.

She takes over from Ludovic Lacaine, who successfully led the healthcare division of EuropaBio since February 2009.

Commenting on the appointment EuropaBio Secretary General, Nathalie Moll, stated: “We are delighted to welcome Miriam to our team and to lead the Healthcare biotechnology division.  She takes on her new role at a dynamic time for EuropaBio and for the biotech industry.  Communicating the benefits that biotechnology can bring to healthcare systems has never been more important and Miriam brings with her a wealth of experience in this field.  She has an in-depth understanding of the potential of healthcare biotech in the context of economic, regulatory and financial challenges.  I look forward to working alongside Miriam and the rest of the healthcare team, to drive this agenda forward. ”
