GM remains controversial

The European Commission is expected to allow a genetically modified maize line for import as food and feed in the coming weeks. 

The vote in the appeal committee with senior representatives of national ministries ended in stalemate last week. As expected, it came to an insufficient majority, neither for or against the authorization, Germany abstained. Thus, the Commission is required to perform the step on their own.
