New EU GMO cultivation approval likely

The European Commission has today submitted a GM maize cultivation request to member states, after an EU court ruled that the Commission failed to act on the application, made back in 2001.

It means Pioneer's '1507' (Bt maize) variety could soon become only the second GMO to be allowed to be grown in the EU, with the Commission set to authorise the request if the Council cannot decide either way.
