‘Spurious’ claims cannot be used to ban GMOs - top EU scientist

EU countries should be allowed to ban genetically-modified (GM) crops on ethical or social grounds but must stop using "spurious" safety claims, according to the European Commission's chief scientific adviser Ann Glover.

No more evidence is needed to show that GMOs are any more harmful than their conventional counterparts, believes Glover - noting that many of those against the technology no longer use science as their argument.
