Public authorities reject GMO scare study
In September 2012, a study by French Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini et al made the headlines with scary pictures of rats that allegedly developed tumours due to being fed with NK 603 genetically modified maize. Governments in at least 10 countries and public authorities at EU level have examined the study by the end of November 2012. These publicly appointed experts who are responsible for food safety in their respective countries and regions have all rejected the study and agreed that there is no basis to question the previous safety evaluation of NK603 maize. This means that this product is at least as safe as conventional maize. Many other groups issued additional rejections, for example six French Academies of Sciences.
