Scientific poster: Food innovation requires transparency and efficiency

The risk assessment process is one essential factor determining access to food innovation in Europe. Taking the example of import authorisations for genetically modified (GM) crops we
show that EFSA’s risk assessment trails behind other risk assessors in terms of efficiency, that risk managers often vote against the science, and that risk communicators may be failing to communicate the proportionality of risks and benefits. EuropaBio shows that increased efficiency and transparency can build trust in the EU food authorisation system.
