EFIB - European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology and the Bioeconomy

EFIB

EFIB is EuropaBio’s flagship Forum where stakeholders from public institutions to NGOs engage with each other to support the development of Europe industrial biotechnology and bioeconomy.

As the new mandates of the European Parliament and European Commission were approved, the 2024-25 editions of EFIB focused on Brussels. EuropaBio joined forces with BIOKET for the 2025 edition, which took place on March 11-13 2025, in Brussels. The collaboration with BIOKET, an annual international Conference advancing Key Enabling Technologies and innovations applied to biomass valorisation, brought a significant policy-making component to our Forum.

Past Editions

Launched in 2008, EFIB brought voices together from policy, regulation, research, and industry from start-ups to established global actors. Each edition covered a wide array of topics, such as Food, Feed and Nutrition, Sustainable Biomaterials, Bioprocesses and Technologies, Sustainable Finance, and Biomanufacturing.

The Forum organises sessions such as :

  • Executive Round table meetings to bring together senior industry and EU institution voices on the issues driving global industry.
  • SME Breakfasts that focus on key issues to emerging and fast growing companies.
  • Start Up Village and Start Up Hour to showcase tomorrow’s companies.

Since 2021, the Forum publishes the Annual EFIB Statement: a two-pager focusing on annual European policy priorities
