#EFIB2020 goes digital – EuropaBio hosts 13th annual European Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy Conference

As Europe looks to the implementation of the EU Green Deal and a sustainable post-COVID future, this year’s conference will highlight how industrial biotechnology and bio-based innovation can play a key role in the transition to a more sustainable and circular economy.

Brussels, 2 October 2020 – The European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology and the Bioeconomy (EFIB) will start on Monday in a new fully digital format, providing 5 days of insights and engagements.

Now in its 13th edition, the conference continues to attract leading industry and policy experts to discuss opportunities and challenges for these transformative technologies. This year the Forum will have a special focus on how biotechnology innovation can help advance the Green Economy. Six main topics will be highlighted during EFIB: 1) Green. Circular. Sustainable; 2) Food, Feed & Nutrition; 3) Fashion & Textiles; 4) Financing & Investment; 5) Materials & Packaging; and 6) Bioprocesses & Technologies. “This week’s celebrations of the first fully digital Biotech Week provide an ideal lead-in to #EFIB2020, which launches on Monday. This year EFIB is also in a digital setting and we are looking forward to celebrating the sector’s latest achievements in harnessing the power of innovation to help deliver new solutions,” said Agnes Borg, Industrial Biotechnology Director at EuropaBio.

This year’s agenda will amongst others feature Director-General of DG GROW Kerstin Jorna, Forum for the Future CEO Dr Sally Uren OBE and Susanne Pedersen, Assistant Director-General and head of Investment and Policy Solutions of the Global Green Growth Institute. Other speakers will include leading executives from companies such as DSM, Novozymes, Givaudan, Cargill, Stora Enso, and Lenzing as well as distinguished speakers from the European Commission, the European Food Safety Authority, the European Circular Bioeconomy Fund, the Laudes Foundation, and many more. The agenda will also feature perspectives on how industry can help drive the SDG agenda forward, a session looking to the future of biotechnology innovation in Europe co-organised with the European Federation of Biotechnology, and much more!

#EFIB2020 participants will also be able to engage with innovators from start-ups and academia through the Digital Start-Up Forum and the Innovation Campus digital academic poster presentations. A winner for both the Start-Up Forum and Innovation Campus will be announced at the end of the conference week.
