SUMMARY:CLIB International Conference CIC2023
DESCRIPTION:From 14 to 15 February 2023\, the CLIB International Conference will take place in Düsseldorf\, Germany\, organised by CLIB – Cluster industrial biotechnology. Under the title ” Setting sail for industrial implementation” different sessions will debate how biotechnology help achieve the climate and sustainability goals. On the first day of the CIC2023\, the focus will be on levers in this monumental transformation\, highlighting where biotechnology can really make a difference: to harness sustainable resources\, to enable innovative processes\, and ultimately to close the carbon cycle. \n\n\n\nOn the second day\, CIC2023 will host the FARMŸNG satellite event\, focusing on zero-waste biorefineries. After inputs from this CBE JU flagship\, which is constructing the first-of-a-kind vertical large-scale insect farm\, other speakers will expand the scope towards other value chains\, discussing how zero-waste biorefineries can be planned\, built\, and sustainably supplied with feedstock\, all the while closing resource loops. A final keynote will focus on investing in scale-up projects and a holistic view on sustainability. \n\n\n\nAbout 200 participants are expected\, with representatives from industry\, a large number of national and international SMEs\, research institutions and stakeholders from politics and associations. In recent years\, the CIC has established itself as a platform to initiate partnerships along value chains in the bio and circular economy. \n\n\n\nAbout CIC – CLIB International Conference \n\n\n\nThis is the annual international conference of the Cluster Industrial Biotechnology\, initiated in 2009 and now in its 13th edition. The CIC has established itself as a platform to initiate partnerships along value chains in the bio and circular economy\, each year kicking off the biotech and bioeconomy conference circle early in the year. It has about 200 participants\, with representatives from industry\, a large number of national and international SMEs\, research institutions\, and stakeholders from politics and associations. \n\n\n\nAbout CLIB – Cluster Industrial Biotechnology \n\n\n\nCLIB (Cluster Industrial Biotechnology) is an international open innovation cluster of large companies\, SMEs\, academic institutes\, and universities\, as well as other stakeholders active in biotechnology and the circular bioeconomy as a whole. The cluster comprises over 100 members with a share of about 25 % international members. The overall goal of CLIB is to network stakeholders along and across value chains and to identify new opportunities for innovation\, projects\, and business. Through this\, the cluster develops cross-sectoral biotechnological solutions for sustainable processes and products. Pertinent project areas are identified by the CLIB team in conjunction with members in an iterative process. CLIB is a non-profit association\, with its members shaping the cluster’s interests and activities.

SUMMARY:Safe and Sustainable-by-Design: a key tool to boost innovation and growth
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by MEP Maria Spyraki\n\n\n\nCo-chair of the European Parliament Intergroup on ‘Climate Change\, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’\n\n\n\nIn October 2020\, The Chemical Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) was launched by the European Commission as a core element of the European Green Deal. As the CSS sets out a vision for the EU’s chemical policy\, to strive for a “toxic-free environment”\, it thus calls for a transition to chemicals that are Safe and Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD). The European Commission’s vision on Safe and Sustainable-by-Design moves towards a future where “Chemicals are produced/used in a way that maximizes their benefits to society while avoiding harm to planet & people and production and use of safe and sustainable chemicals in Europe becomes a benchmark worldwide”\, as put forward in the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability. \n\n\n\nTherefore\, the SSbD concept can be turned into a mobilizing power driving for innovation and accelerating the transition towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, circularity and climate neutrality. For this reason\, it is crucial that the criteria for chemicals that are Safe and Sustainable-by-Design address the three pillars of sustainability – environmental\, social and economic factors – and take a life cycle approach. Moreover\, a holistic and multistakeholder approach of different sectors and key players needs to be taken into consideration to achieve an inclusive and successful transition towards chemical that are Safe and Sustainable-by-Design. \n\n\n\nIn this regard\, the European Parliament Intergroup on “Climate Change\, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development”\, in collaboration with Cefic\, is co-organizing an online event aiming at encouraging strong involvement\, dialogue and close cooperation among different stakeholders on the SSbD issue. The event will provide the opportunity to explore concrete examples on chemical innovation in the industry sector\, while also creating an open discussion between EU Institutions\, the NGO community and other stakeholders. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:EU Matchmaking Event on COVID-19 Therapeutics
DESCRIPTION:Building on the experience of the EU Task Force for Industrial Scale-up of COVID-19 vaccines\, the European Commission will facilitate cooperation between actors in the supply chain to ensure that available therapeutics are produced in sufficient quantity as soon as possible. In the context of a surge in demand\, it remains crucial to ensure the speedy production of current and new therapeutics against COVID-19. To support the industry\, the Commission organises the pan-EU matchmaking events for all supply chain actors\, so that they find solutions for the bottlenecks encountered. \n\n\n\nMedicines for COVID-19 are still in the development phase. Therefore\, the objective of the event is to help accelerate the development of new and repurposed medicines for COVID-19 therapeutics\, i.e. medicines specifically developed for an indication in treatment of COVID-19\, at all stages of COVID-19 disease and mobilise the EU pharma manufacturing capacity for their potential production. \n\n\n\nThe target group is the entire EU COVID-19 therapeutics value chain starting with researchers and developers\, through manufacturing companies and representatives of the hospitals\, who apply such therapeutics to their patients. The providers of ancillary functions such as clinical trials services\, accessories suppliers (e.g. vials\, syringes\, tubes etc.)\, funding providers and public procurers will also be targeted to take part in the event. \n\n\n\nThe event will take place virtually on 12th and 13th July 2021. 12th July will start with a half-day seminar setting the scene with a welcome by Commissioner Breton and Commissioner Kyriakides. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to apply? \n\n\n\nIn order to apply to the event\, European companies must comply with the requirements stated in the event’s Call for Expression of Interest. Register until June 25.

SUMMARY:Renewable Materials Conference
DESCRIPTION:Featuring a unique concept to present all sustainable and renewable material solutions at one event: bio-based\, CO2-based and recycled. This time\, the conference will be held as hybrid event. 300 to 400 participants are expected. \n\n\n\nThere is a growing market demand for advanced and ready-to-use sustainable material solutions with a low carbon footprint – and fossil-free. As a response to this challenge\, nova-Institute has decided to unite all relevant industries in the new Renewable Materials Conference (RMC). Over three days\, participants get a complete overview of the latest renewable material solutions from a wide range of sustainable raw materials and technologies. \n\n\n\nThe first day will be focusing on building blocks and chemicals\, the second on polymers and plastics and the third on plastic and composite materials. Or in other words: All material solutions based on renewable carbon – avoiding the use of additional fossil carbon. \n\n\n\nThe Renewable Materials Conference is the follow-up event to the “13th International Conference on Bio-based Materials”\, which builds on a successful history of previous conferences: In 2019\, more than 270 participants attended and 30 exhibitors were present. It was the second largest event on bio-based materials in Europe and continues within this new concept. The conference also integrates topics from the “Biocomposites Conference Cologne” and extends the conference with presentations on chemicals and polymers from CO2 use (CCU) as well as new solutions from the field of recycling\, so that the entire spectrum of renewable materials is covered. \n\n\n\nnova-Institute’s renewable carbon approach aims to initiate the end of the fossil age of chemicals and plastics and builds the foundation for the RMC. Renewable chemicals\, plastics\, composites\, fibres and other products can be produced either from biomass\, directly via CO2 utilisation\, or recycling. Naturally\, this includes the established areas of bio-based polymers and biocomposites. \n\n\n\nThe conference will help shape the sustainable future of chemicals and materials and will provide new advantages and synergies by establishing a meeting point for numerous cross-sectoral networking opportunities.
