SUMMARY:How can stronger IP in EU Free Trade Agreements boost productivity and economic growth in Europe?
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join a virtual event seeking to discuss the economic and societal value of intellectual property rights (IPRs) for Europe. \n\n\n\nHow do IPRs in EU Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) support EU strategic resilience and global competitiveness in a post-COVID world? What are the concrete benefits of robust IPRs for EU member states? How important is IP for innovation\, in particular for the green and digital societal transformations? Why should IPRs be given a more prominent role in EU policy making\, especially when it comes to EU FTAs? These are some of the questions that our guest speakers will address during the panel discussion. \n\n\n\nFollowing the presentation of a recent ECIPE report\, the speakers will explore how stronger IPR provisions in EU FTAs contribute to EU and EU Member State economic and societal ambitions. \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nFredrik Erixon\, Director\, ECIPEMaria Martin-Prat\, Deputy Director – General\, DG TRADENathalie Moll\, Director General\, EFPIALuisa Santos\, Deputy Director General\, BusinessEurope\n\n\n\nIf you have any questions or require additional information\, please contact ECIPE at events@ecipe.org \n\n\n\nWe look forward to virtually meeting you on 11 January! \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Investing in healthcare - How can the revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation better attract investors in the future?
DESCRIPTION:The evaluation and revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation is the opportunity to create a future-proof\, patient-oriented and leading life science and biotechnology sector in the EU. \n\n\n\nThe first aim of this initiative should be to regain EU’s global leadership as a home for R&D and cutting-edge industry to secure high-quality care for citizens at affordable levels. \n\n\n\nNew biotechnology-derived vaccines and treatments have helped to tackle numerous life-threatening illnesses. Targeted treatments\, like cell and gene therapies\, and new mRNA platforms are paving the way for future treatments. COVID-19 has shown that only science-based and high-risk research embedded in a strong life science industry ecosystem can bring the lasting solutions to health challenges. \n\n\n\nEmerging biopharmaceutical companies account for over 70% of the research pipeline contributing to a vibrant sector. The EU biotech sector\, mostly made up of SMEs\, relies on robust IP and targeted incentives that enable companies to raise risk capital\, with the prospect of remaining unprofitable for years. It is due to these set of incentives that the EU has retained its capability to produce breakthrough innovation. To keep pace with the rest of the world\, future incentives should reflect the economic challenges of developing health innovation. \n\n\n\nJoin us to find out how investing in R&D for innovative medicines and treatments is essential to support a competitive European biotechnology industry. \n\n\n\nConfirmed speakers:: \n\n\n\n\nJuozas OLEKAS\, Member of the European Parliament\, S&D\, Lithuania \n\n\n\nStefan Gijssels\, SEBOIO Health Policy Consulting and Co-founder of digestive Cancer Europe \n\n\n\nIngrid Maes\, Co-founder of Inovigate\, 25 years of experience in Life Sciences Expertise in New Product Development and Market Introduction \n\n\n\nIsabelle Schubert\, Global Head IP Strategy at Novartis \n\n\n\nOskar Slotboom\, General Partner at BGV (BioGeneration Ventures) \n\n\n\n\nSlides\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Biotechnology for society - Turning science into a sustainable and healthy world
DESCRIPTION:EuropaBio’s launch meeting for Biotech Week will share how science finds its way to an end use\, whether it is a new medicine\, or a product developed using new scientific processes.  \n\n\n\nEurope sets the global standard for consumer and environmental protection.  This translates into a regulatory framework for different sectors through which novel products must pass before they can be used in Europe.  The European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) are the gateway for new products and play a critical role in how Europe innovates safely. \n\n\n\nIt can be complicated\, particularly for new science. So how does Europe deliver innovation to benefit patients and our planet whilst ensuring the high standards and safety that we expect? \n\n\n\nThe Covid response from regulators demonstrated how Europe can be agile and rapid for the vaccines that are now helping Europe restore a safe and open society.  Our launch event for Biotech Week brings together the community that develops products from science to consumers\, highlighting how we can evolve our regulatory systems help develop safe societies and a competitive Europe. \n\n\n\nConfirmed speakers: \n\n\n\nAna Maria Bravo\, Director of Government Affairs\, IFFWolfgang Gelbmann\, Senior Scientific Officer\, Nutrition Unit\, EFSADamian Gilkerson\, CSL Behring Executive Director Therapeutic Area EU\, Commercial Operations EuropeEmmanuelle Voisin\, CEO Voisin Consulting Life Sciences\n\n\n\nJoin us to find out how science reaches its target and help EuropaBio kick start a week dedicated to the explanation and celebration of biotechnology. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Treatment without borders: the EU case for equitable patient access to advanced therapies
DESCRIPTION:The EU Pharmaceutical Strategy is looking to improve patients’ access to therapies for challenging and rare conditions. The EU legislation on cross-border healthcare is an important instrument to ensure patient access to the best available care. There is an urgent need to revise this legislation to enable EU patients to access novel advanced therapies and medicines for rare diseases when these are not available in their home country. \n\n\n\nEuropaBio’s Advanced Therapies Series continues with a virtual discussion on avenues for enhancing the access of EU patients to novel biotechnology-derived treatments on September 7\, 2021\, from 16h00 to 17h00 CET. \n\n\n\nA patient who is also actively engaged in patient advocacy will explain the value of advanced therapies for rare disease patients and the key challenges they encounter when accessing treatments outside their home countries. \n\n\n\nA panel of EU\, national\, and industry representatives will attempt to put forward solutions for securing equitable access to both specialised centres and to treatment for all EU patients in need. Among others\, they will seek to advise on how to tackle the following challenges: some treatment centres being less interested to treat cross-border patients\, the need for experience and expertise in rare diseases\, approval process and time for cross-border treatment\, lack of knowledge or experience of healthcare providers in requesting reimbursement for cross-border treatments\, difficulties in approving advanced therapy applications if not reimbursed in the home country\, etc. \n\n\n\nModerator \n\n\n\nBernard Grimm\, Healthcare Biotech Director\, EuropaBio \n\n\n\nSpeakers \n\n\n\nJana Popova\, Executive Committee Member of the European Alliance of Neuromuscular Disorders Associations & EUPATI Patient Engagement Training Coordinator \n\n\n\nBrieuc Van Damme\, Director-General Healthcare\, RIZIV-INAMI \n\n\n\nMartin Dorazil\, Deputy Head of Unit\, DG Health\, European Commission \n\n\n\nDirk Vander Mijnsbrugge\, Vice President Medical Affairs Lead Rare Diseases International Developed Markets\, Pfizer \n\n\n\nIrina Grossenbacher\, Region Europe Patient Access Director\, Novartis Rare Diseases \n\n\n\nTomislav Sokol\, Member of the European Parliament\, EPP\, Croatia

SUMMARY:EuropaBio Patient BioForum: Advancing patient access to innovative treatments
DESCRIPTION:2021 is set to be another landmark year in the area of health. It is hoped to not only relieve the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic on EU patients and healthcare systems\, but also let the health community advance the great number of other priorities there are. In the EU\, 2021 is set to give a start to the implementation of the European Health Union and the related objectives of the new EU Pharmaceutical Strategy. Among these\, the EU health community is looking to improve patients’ access to therapies for challenging and rare conditions. \n\n\n\nThis meeting of EuropaBio’s Patient BioForum will discuss avenues for enhancing the access of EU patients to novel biotechnology-derived treatments in two sessions: \n\n\n\nMorning session – 10:30-12:00 CET\n\n\n\nPharmaceutical Strategy implementation for continued innovation and delivery in the area of rare and paediatric diseases. \n\n\n\nThe European Commission is discussing on the calibration of incentives for investing in the development of medicines for rare and paediatric diseases both with Member States and stakeholders. We invite the BioForum members to exchange proposals for informing this important debate on several key points\, such as criteria for defining unmet need and incentivising innovation in such areas\, etc. \n\n\n\nAfternoon session – 13:00-14:30 CET\n\n\n\nImproving patient access across borders \n\n\n\nThe EU Directive on cross-border healthcare is an important instrument to ensure patient access to the best available care. The Directive is particularly relevant for advanced therapies and medicines for rare diseases. Well-functioning EU cross-border healthcare legislation can ensure patients have access to specialised treatments and novel therapies when these are not available in their home country. \n\n\n\nThe exchange between guest speakers and BioForum members is aimed to result in the post-meeting release of policy recommendations for how patient access can be advanced in the EU in the context of its new Pharmaceutical Strategy. \n\n\n\nWe very much look forward to your active participation on 18 May 2021.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nVIRTUAL EVENT

SUMMARY:Renewable Materials Conference
DESCRIPTION:Featuring a unique concept to present all sustainable and renewable material solutions at one event: bio-based\, CO2-based and recycled. This time\, the conference will be held as hybrid event. 300 to 400 participants are expected. \n\n\n\nThere is a growing market demand for advanced and ready-to-use sustainable material solutions with a low carbon footprint – and fossil-free. As a response to this challenge\, nova-Institute has decided to unite all relevant industries in the new Renewable Materials Conference (RMC). Over three days\, participants get a complete overview of the latest renewable material solutions from a wide range of sustainable raw materials and technologies. \n\n\n\nThe first day will be focusing on building blocks and chemicals\, the second on polymers and plastics and the third on plastic and composite materials. Or in other words: All material solutions based on renewable carbon – avoiding the use of additional fossil carbon. \n\n\n\nThe Renewable Materials Conference is the follow-up event to the “13th International Conference on Bio-based Materials”\, which builds on a successful history of previous conferences: In 2019\, more than 270 participants attended and 30 exhibitors were present. It was the second largest event on bio-based materials in Europe and continues within this new concept. The conference also integrates topics from the “Biocomposites Conference Cologne” and extends the conference with presentations on chemicals and polymers from CO2 use (CCU) as well as new solutions from the field of recycling\, so that the entire spectrum of renewable materials is covered. \n\n\n\nnova-Institute’s renewable carbon approach aims to initiate the end of the fossil age of chemicals and plastics and builds the foundation for the RMC. Renewable chemicals\, plastics\, composites\, fibres and other products can be produced either from biomass\, directly via CO2 utilisation\, or recycling. Naturally\, this includes the established areas of bio-based polymers and biocomposites. \n\n\n\nThe conference will help shape the sustainable future of chemicals and materials and will provide new advantages and synergies by establishing a meeting point for numerous cross-sectoral networking opportunities.
