Bio-Preparedness WORKSHOP
February 13th, 2008, Brussels, BELGIUM |
Dear Participants,
It is our great pleasure to invite you to the STACCATO Workshop on
Bio-Preparedness
STACCATO is a European project funded by the European Commission
under the Preparation Action for Security Research (PASR) 2004-2006.
The project aims at proposing methods and solutions for the creation
of a security market and a structured supply chain in Europe by
identifying implementation measures.
STACCATO project is mapping existing competencies in the EU-27,
highlighting the role of SMEs in order to integrate their innovation
potential and examine ways to undertake a coordination of the
European Security and Technological Industrial Base (STIB),
proposing a methodology for technological watch, and analyzing the
condition and propose recommendations to develop a common European
Security Equipment Market (ESEM) by identifying common needs, taking
into account regulatory issues and coordination with regional,
national, international and EU security research programmes.
These activities are supported by an enlarged multi-sector
stakeholders platform composed of users, industries, SMEs, academia
and think tanks of the EU-27 based on the SeNTRE and ESRAB (European
Security Research Advisory Board) experience.
In this framework, a specific workshop will be organised in Brussels
on the 13th of February 2008. Industry, SMEs Think Tanks, Research
and Technology Organizations (RTOs), Academia and End Users are
invited to participate in this process on the basis of their fields
of competence.
The workshop will focus on key technology capabilities/priorities,
capability and technology gaps, problems across the supply chain,
market conditions. It aims to reflect on the current status of how
to deal with the emerging issues of Biosecurity, Biosafety &
Bio-Preparedness.
The speakers and the audience will comprise experienced scientists,
politicians, and EU representatives. A great depth of background
knowledge and heightened awareness of these issues will hence be
guaranteed.
Benefits for the participants consist of the possibility:
- To give visibility to their technological and
industrial competences in the supply chain
- To have a better understanding of common
procurement opportunities in the EU
- To contribute in the mapping of the European
STIB and the definition of gaps and priorities for the future
- To demonstrate their vision for the security
market in Europe
- To identify opportunities for common market
issues, policy, standardisation for procurement and other
regulatory aspects.
Generous support is provided by the EU FP6 funding
line “Security Research”, which strongly supports uniting,
harmonizing and strengthening European activities in these fields.
