Inter-association letter to raise our concern about the proposed definition of “natural polymers” in the REACH restriction of microplastics
POSITION PAPER
EuropaBio, together with BioChemEurope, Edana, European Bioplastics, Go!PHA and Renewable Carbon Initiative, co-signed a joint letter to the European Commission on the topic of biopolymers.
The aim of the initiative is to raise concern about the proposed definition of „natural polymers“ and its impact on biopolymers in the context of the REACH restriction of microplastics. The letter proposes an amendment to the draft Regulation and provides arguments as to why this proposed amendment would be justified.
EuropaBio adds its voice to this inter-association collaboration, who are proponents of the green transition, climate change mitigation and sustainable innovation. Innovation efforts in biopolymers provide sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics and should be encouraged in policy to support the EU Green Deal objectives.
