Bioeconomy strategy sets the right pathway for Europe

PRESS RELEASE
Brussels, 28 November 2025 – “The Bioeconomy Strategy is a pivotal step towards strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, driving industrial decarbonisation, and fostering sustainable growth through innovation” says Claire Skentelbery, Director General of EuropaBio.
EuropaBio welcomes a strong and explicit role for advanced fermentation and biorefineries in the Strategy with ambitious provisions, that include SME early advice and investment de-risking, in alignment with the strategy behind the EU Biotech Act.
The new Strategy is a timely and essential pillar of the EU’s industrial policy, supporting the transition away from a petroleum-based society and aligning with key initiatives such as the EU Biotech Act, the Life Science Strategy, and the Clean Industrial Deal.
EuropaBio supports the Commission’s ambition to build a reliable policy framework that attracts investment, enables sustainable growth, and unlocks the full potential of Europe’s bioeconomy. Biotechnologies are central to delivering the EU’s goals for competitive, healthy, resilient, and sustainable economies and societies.
EuropaBio calls on the European Commission and Member States to ensure the Strategy delivers by supporting investment in biotech innovation, modernising regulatory frameworks to enable market access, and strengthening education and skills for the sector. These priorities will help unlock the full potential of Europe’s bioeconomy and secure its global competitiveness.
