Biomanufacturing: Europe’s Industrial Future

PAPER
Brussels, 6 February 2025 - Industry across sectors face challenges in reducing the environmental footprint whilst staying competitive. Biomanufacturing is expanding its impact on different industries by providing new sustainable technologies supported by more resilient supply-chains.
A global race is underway to produce innovative and scalable products that will change the current outlook for the health, chemical or food industries, so Europe is on an industrial edge.
The forthcoming EU Biotech Act, together with cluster of initiatives linked to biotechnology including the Bioeconomy Strategy, EU Life Sciences Strategy, Critical Medicines Act and Clean Industrial Deal, will need to deliver a strategic vision for biomanufacturing and its future in Europe as part of a comprehensive and holistic industrial policy.
This paper “Biomanufacturing: Europe’s Industrial Future”, explores the current status and future options and opportunities for biomanufacturing in Europe, underpinned by data and examples. It explores the industrial challenges and potential solutions.
