EuropaBio welcomes the Competitiveness Council conclusions outlining a vision for ‘a competitive European industry driving our green, digital and resilient future’.
The Council’s recent agenda recognises the essential role biotechnology plays in shaping Europe’s future. Claire Skentelbery, Director-General of EuropaBio, notes “The Council conclusions provide clear momentum ahead of the EU elections and next Commission mandate. In discussing the Letta report, the Commission communication on long-term competitiveness, and the Initiative ‘Boosting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing, the Council underscores the vital transformative role of biotechnology within innovation, health and sustainability within a competitive Europe.”
The conclusions emphasise the need to ‘recognise biotechnology as an elementary part of the EU’s industrial policy and to ensure coordination in order to enhance policy coherence’ and stress that Europe’s position in biotechnology should be strengthened. EuropaBio remains dedicated to collaborating with policymakers and stakeholders to ensure the successful realisation of the Council and Commission’s objectives to drive Europe towards a sustainable and competitive future.
