Industry and biotech representatives welcome the EC Initiative “Boosting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing in the EU”

Industry associations and organisations representing biotechnology across sectors have released a joint statement welcoming the European Commission Initiative ‘Boosting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing in the EU’.
The cross-sector representatives praise the Initiative as a positive starting point, while calling for greater ambition and implementation for biotechnology as a recognised critical technology for economic security.
Signatories emphasise that while a potential EU Biotech Act is welcome, ambitious and urgent actions are needed today. They add that these actions are needed to address current bottlenecks to European growth. Furthermore, they call for high level leadership and a multistakeholder approach to drive implementation of this initiative, urging the Commission, Parliament and EU Member States to help deliver on the objectives.
The joint signatories include: Alliance for Biosolutions, Association of Manufacturers and Formulators of Enzyme Products (AMFEP), Bio-Based Industries Consortium (BIC), BioChem Europe, Cellular Agriculture Europe, Confederation of European Yeast Producers (COFALEC), CropLife Europe, EFPIA, European Biodiesel Board (EBB), European Bioplastics, European Confederation of Pharmaceutical Entrepreneurs (EUCOPE), European Food and Fermentation Cultures Association (EFFCA), Euroseeds, EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures (FEFANA), EuropaBio, Food Fermentation Europe, Good Food Institute Europe and IPA Europe.
EuropaBio Director General, Dr Claire Skentelbery added “It is significant that so many industry representatives across sectors support this Initiative. For Europe to be globally resilient and competitive within sectors vital to our future society and economy, ‘Boosting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing in the EU’ must be ambitious and delivered quickly with tangible outcomes.”
