Remilk joins EuropaBio: recreating dairy that makes the world a better place

    PRESS RELEASE

Remilk joins EuropaBio: recreating dairy that makes the world a better place

Brussels, 22 February 2022 – EuropaBio is pleased to announce that Remilk has joined as an associate member.

Founded in 2019, Remilk is a precision fermentation company producing animal-free dairy protein, delivering sustainable dairy products with the same profile as those derived from animals. Remilk uses yeast that has been modified to produce milk proteins, creating a platform through which its dairy products can be produced at commodity scale. According to Remilk, dairy produced via precision fermentation requires only a fraction of the resources compared to traditional dairy, and produces a fraction of its harmful emissions. Remilk’s products are free of lactose, cholesterol, and hormone and antibiotic residues.

As a member of EuropaBio, Remilk aims to be amongst the first companies to enter the EU food market, opening an important sustainability pathway in food production, and harnessing the power of nature and biotechnology to bring high-quality animal-free dairy to consumers across the EU.

EuropaBio Director-General Dr. Claire Skentelbery commented “It is very exciting to welcome Remilk into EuropaBio. It represents a future for sustainable food production, without compromise for health, safety or quality, and with a huge advance in environmental impact.”

Remilk Co-Founder and CEO, Aviv Wolff, added: “We are honoured to join the EuropaBio association, partnering with the best and brightest minds in the industry. We are looking forward to entering the European market, providing consumers with high quality dairy products that are healthy and clean and so much friendlier to our body, our planet, and animals”.

    Vitamin B2

The biomanufacturing of Vitamin B2 led to the reduction of 75% of fossil raw materials and 50% operating costs, compared to the chemical process. Vitamin B2 is used in the food, feed or healthcare sectors.

    Insulin

Insulin is one of the most widely known biopharmaceutical. Biotechnology revolutionised its manufacturing process and led to the development of new types of insulin through r-DNA technology.

    Detergents

Enzymes and biosurfactancts are alternative ingredients that improve the performance of detergents, while leading to water and energy savings and reductions in CO2 emissions and water toxicity.

    Clothes

Clothes made from alternative fibres produced by microorganisms can be 8x stronger than steel, 100% recyclable, biodegradable and replace fossil-fuel based or resource-intensive textiles.

    Algal Omega 3

Algal Omega-3 is an innovative feed product for aquaculture. It reduces the impact on climate change by 30-40% compared to fish oil and saves 60 tons of wild fish for every ton of Algal Omega-3 used.

    Cheese

Cheese is a vegetarian product thanks to biotechnology. Biotechnology is also essential to produce lactose- or cholesterol-free cheese, as well as alternative proteins.
